ABOUT THE FILM

The gripping account of two athletes who embarked on the world’s toughest row—3000 miles across the atlantic— takes a harrowing turn, mirroring the ordeal of displaced persons crossing dangerous seas.

Extreme athletes Omar Nour and Omar Samra accept the Talisker Atlantic Challenge, a 3,000 mile Atlantic Ocean crossing by rowboat with no assistance, and no stopping. Training and preparing for two years, Team O2 commit their adventure to the plight of displaced people crossing the Mediterranean with support from UNHCR and UNDP.

After a slow start and bad winds, sickness, and exhaustion, day 9 dawns in a gale, 600 miles from shore. A rogue wave flips their boat and both men are in the water.  With beacons failing, they wait and pray and struggle, fighting 45-knot winds, and riding 8-meter waves.  For 13 hours, Samra and Nour face the same dangers and decisions of the desperate refugees to whom they dedicated their row. In this true-life adventure, survival demands a miracle or two.

Omar NOUR

Larger-than-life Omar Nour is a serial entrepreneur, motivational speaker and retired professional athlete.

Starting out his career in 2007, Omar co-founded Tot Solutions LLC - a telecommunications provider for businesses and governments across Africa – with his younger brother Diaa. During this time, Omar spent much of his time working, which had a serious effect on his health. By age 29, he weighed in at 105KG – after ripping his suit pants (twice!), he turned his life around by signing up for this first ever triathlon.

Just 2 short years later, Nour earned his pro-card and started his professional triathlon career. The first Egyptian professional triathlete in history, he represented his country on the Olympic triathlon circuit from 2010 – 2017. Although Nour’s results as an athlete elevated his profile, his approachable, lighthearted personality is what made him a crowd favorite.

His unique fat-to-fit story has been recognized by brands and governments across the Middle East, and he has since delivered motivation talks, events, clinics and experiences to over 3 million children in the region.

Since safely returning to dry land, Omar has turned his attention back to business as CEO of VENTUM Middle East - a premium bike company which leverages technology from fighter jets and Formula One cars. He is also CEO of Enduro Supply - one of the leading distributors of sports and lifestyle goods in the Middle East.

Nour has a triple major and pre-med degree from

The John Hopkins University, and speaks Arabic, French, English and German.

Omar Samra

Omar Samra is an adventurer, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, future astronaut, and U.N. goodwill ambassador. He’s the first Egyptian to climb Mount Everest, the 7 Summits (the seven highest mountains of each of the seven continents) and ski to both the North and South Pole. The feat, dubbed ‘The Explorer’s Grand Slam’ has been completed by less than 40 people in history. In 2017, Omar made three first ascents in Antarctica and was given the privilege of naming them after his family (Mount Samra, Marwa and Teela).

As a public figure, Samra is best known for his passion and perseverance. Diagnosed as severely asthmatic at age 11, Samra did not let this hinder his ambitions. Since his early days of backpacking around the world in 370 days, he’s succeeded in inspiring millions to dream big and reach their full potential.

Samra holds a degree in Economics from the American University in Cairo and an MBA from London Business School in Entrepreneurship. He worked as an investment banker and private equity professional in London, Hong Kong, Dubai and Cairo, before starting up his own company, Wild Guanabana, in 2009. Samra also founded and sits on the board of a children’s charity, Marwa Fayed’s Toy Run, which has touched the lives of more than 100,000 children in over 10 countries.
