On 14 December 2017, Omar Samra and Omar Nour, affectionately dubbed ‘O2’, set off in the world’s toughest rowing race – an unsupported, 3,000 nautical mile journey across the Atlantic Ocean, from La Gomera in the Spanish Canary Islands to Nelson’s Dockyard English Harbour in Antigua.
Nour and Samra underwent 10 months of rigorous
mental and physical training for the grueling challenge.
What they couldn’t prepare for, is what actually happened.
Beyond the Raging Sea, a film by globally-renowned director
Marco Orsini, is the story of O2’s perilous Atlantic crossing attempt and fight for survival. A fight experienced by some of the 66 million displaced individuals around the world who set off on similar crossings in a desperate bid for safe refuge.
Beyond The Raging Sea.
IN ALPHABETICAL ORDER
Omar Nour is the first Egyptian professional triathlete in history. He represents his country on the Olympic triathlon circuit and is the fastest Arabic-speaking triathlete in the world.
At the age of 29, he weighed in at 105 kg – after ripping his suit pants (twice!), he turned his life around by signing up for this first ever triathlon. Just 2 short years later, Nour earned his pro-card and started his professional triathlon career at age 31. Although Nour’s results as an athlete have elevated his profile, his approachable, lighthearted, “larger than life” personality is what makes him a crowd favorite.
Nour has successfully launched his own brand “o.n.” which is synonymous to healthy living and lifestyle, and is an active motivational speaker - passionate about educating and motivating adults and children alike to pursue their dreams.
Nour is an avid entrepreneur having started numerous companies with his younger brother. Most recently the duo has successfully launched Enduro Supply - a sports goods distribution company based in the UAE, and Ventum - the fastest time trial bicycle in the world.
Nour has a triple major and pre-med degree from The John Hopkins University, and speaks Arabic, French, English and German.
Omar Samra is an adventurer, entrepreneur, motivational speaker, future astronaut, and U.N. goodwill ambassador. He’s the first Egyptian to climb Mount Everest, the 7 Summits (the seven highest mountains of each of the seven continents) and ski to both the North and South Pole. The feat, dubbed ‘The Explorer’s Grand Slam’ has been completed by less than 40 people in history. In 2017, Omar made three first ascents in Antarctica and was given the privilege of naming them after his family (Mount Samra, Marwa and Teela).
As a public figure, Samra is best known for his passion and perseverance. Diagnosed as severely asthmatic at age 11, Samra did not let this hinder his ambitions. Since his early days of backpacking around the world in 370 days, he’s succeeded in inspiring millions to dream big and reach their full potential.
Samra holds a degree in Economics from the American University in Cairo and an MBA from London Business School in Entrepreneurship. He worked as an investment banker and private equity professional in London, Hong Kong, Dubai and Cairo, before starting up his own company, Wild Guanabana, in 2009. Samra also founded and sits on the board of a children’s charity, Marwa Fayed’s Toy Run, which has touched the lives of more than 100,000 children in over 10 countries.
Marco Orsini is an award-winning writer, director and producer of film and television whose narrative work has screened at Tribeca and Sundance, among other important festivals.
A founder and current President of the International Emerging Film Talent Association of Monaco (IEFTA), Marco is a noted expert, advocate and fundraiser on behalf of film education and industry development in emerging countries.
